We took the original route up and tried a different one on the way down, which almost led us to get lost. Since very few people take that particular path, the trees became denser and the track started to disappear. We only felt relieved once we spotted some familiar landmarks from our ascent.
An iconic volcanic peak in Auckland featuring a historic obelisk, working farmland, and 360-degree city views.
Routes
Official DocsOriginal Route
A more challenging path through the grass and trees. There are no signs and it's easy to take a wrong turn, but as long as you keep the obelisk in sight, you will reach the summit.
Road Route
A longer, sealed loop following the main road. Easier incline but much longer and less scenic than the internal paths.
Transport & Parking
Note: Roadways within the park are strictly one-way. If you miss a parking area, you must exit the park and loop through city streets to re-enter. Check the map beforehand.
Environment
The original tracks have some tree cover, while the road route is mostly exposed.
The park is a working farm; expect to see sheep and cattle.
