Driving License Malaysia License Exemption Malaysia has driver’s license conversion exemption. From the date of your last entry into New Zealand, you can use your overseas driver’s license to drive for up to 18 months, and your motorcycle or truck driver’s license can be used for up to 12 months. Translation Required If your overseas driver’s license is not in English, you must attach an accurate English translation or an international driver’s license (IDP). The IDP for a car driver’s license can be valid or expired for no more than 6 months, but you must also bring your valid overseas driver’s license. Check Exemption Check whether your national driver’s license is exempted from the conversion of New Zealand driver’s license at NZTA. Right of Way Main Road Priority Main road is preferred. Always give way to traffic on the main road. Turning Priority “Small corner” (Left turn) has priority over “Large corner” (Right turn). If you are turning right, give way to opposing traffic turning left. Left Turn Signal left for at least 3 seconds before turning. Give way to pedestrians. The Minimalist 2-Point Rule Straight & Main Roads First Traffic going straight or driving on the continuing road (top of the ‘T’) always has absolute priority. Left Turns Beat Right Turns If both vehicles are turning and on equal roads, the Left Turn (small turn) goes before the Right Turn (big turn). Roundabout Rules Left Turn Signal left before entering. Go Straight No signal to enter. Signal left halfway. Give way to right. Turn Right Signal right to enter. Signal left to exit. Other Rules Buffer Zone Use center lane as temporary buffer. Merging Use zipper pattern when merging. Bicycle Lane May cross but cannot stop in it. One Lane Bridge Check sign for lane priority. Blue rectangle means you have priority. Give Way Red circle means you must give way to oncoming traffic. Parking Free Parking Parking is usually free on Sundays and public holidays. Check the machine, as it varies by city. City Center There is no free parking in the city center. Parking Signs Paid Parking 120 min. Paid. Free Parking 30 min. Free. Arrow shows direction. Time Restricted 120 min. Free. Mon-Fri 8am-6pm only. Parking Lot Large Parking Space Only front and back have white lines. Middle spacing depends on your skills. Roadside Parking Only white lines allow roadside parking. Never block someone’s exit.
