Arrival Steps

  • Fill out New Zealand Arrival Card Online Declaration Remember to declare any restricted items, otherwise they may be confiscated and you may be fined.
  • Buy a SIM Card It is generally recommended to buy Spark’s 90-day travel pack. You can buy multiple SIMs, but they will have different numbers.
  • Immigration Check Proceed to manual immigration processing with your arrival card.
  • Apply for IRD Number Apply Here You can only apply for an IRD number once your data is entered into the NZ system (after border entry); applications before this will fail. Bank account details can be added later.
  • Collect Luggage Collect your checked luggage from the baggage claim.
  • Biosecurity Check Your luggage will be screened. If they suspect carried items, they will ask questions or direct you to a separate queue for inspection. If clear, you just pass through the x-ray machine.
  • Buy Transport Card (AT HOP) To take the bus, buy an AT HOP card outside the airport (cashless only). Head to your accommodation.
